Southview COVID-19 Updates

CANCELLING FOR COVID-19

Posted 2020-03-16 1:15 PM

Southview family,

Yesterday evening, the CDC recommended that all gatherings of over 50 people be cancelled or postponed for 8 weeks due to COVID-19. As such, Southview will be cancelling all public meetings—worship, Sunday School, Awana, The Deep, and special activities such as Easter pageant, This Day of Resurrection—until further notice.

Keep reading your Southview email this week for details about online worship, Sunday School, Awana, etc.

Though meeting together in person glorifies God and encourages one another, we will use the tools we have—online and telephone—to love God and others through this time. Beyond our meetings, we will be sensitive to meeting the needs of others—who can we call, who can we help with groceries, who can we encourage, and so on.

We are praying for your safety. We are praying that we grow as Christ followers.

Love in Christ,
Pastor Aaron

Southview Family,

The Church Council, Deacons, and Staff have been watching and discussing the growing pandemic of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). As a result, we have decided to cancel all public meetings Sunday, March 15th - Saturday, March 21st. This includes small groups, such as home and church Bible studies, prayer meetings, Awana, etc. We will decide about the following week/s on or before Friday evening, March 20th.

We are not reacting out of fear, but out of compassion, looking out for our neighbors and family. Consider 1 Corinthians 10:24: “No one is to seek his own good, but the good of the other person.”

There are many questions and much uncertainty among the people of our city right now. Take this as an opportunity to minister to family, neighbors, and friends. Our Deacons are available to serve you and your family.

This Sunday’s sermon will be published as a podcast on our website, on Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts around noon on March 15th. Links will also be available on our social media channels on Twitter and Facebook.

We will continue to monitor the latest recommendations and will update you as we know more or as plans change.

If you have questions or concerns please reach out to Pastor Aaron via email, and he will share those with the Church Council.

Under the instruction of Romans 13:1-5 to submit to governing authorities, we encourage everyone to heed the advice of the Centers for Disease Control for instruction on how to protect yourself and what to do if you do not feel well. Some examples:

  • Frequently wash your hands with warm water and soap, for at least 20 seconds.

  • Practice social distancing — avoid handshakes and hugging for the time being, and keep 6 feet of distance between you and others when able.

  • If you or anyone in your family feel ill in any way whatsoever, please stay home until you are fever and symptom-free for 24 hours.

  • If you are immune-compromised and/or over the age of 60, you may elect to remain home entirely due to your higher risk of this virus. If you choose to do that, please let the church office know so the Deacons can get in touch with you to provide what you might need.

We will continue to provide updates via our website, email, and social media.

In Christ,
Southview Baptist Church Council, Deacons, and Staff.
